Many has written Universities Matriculation Examinations (UTME), passed and gained admission, some wrote, failed and there was no room to get admission and many are yet to write. There are surprising reasons why people failed, it is something if one avoids, he/she must excel.

Below are some of the reasons and possible ways to avoid such mistakes

Surprising reasons why people fail in JAMB

  1. NEGLECT TO JAMB SYLLABLES

Syllables comprise of all the areas of concentration to all the subjects you registered for your Jamb examination. It is very bad, the way people neglects to follow the syllables and select the topics they like as their own syllable. Your thought is not the thought of Jamb, as one question must come out from all the topics listed in the syllable.

We advise you follow the syllables and make sure you cover the syllables before the stipulated date of exam.

  1. NEGLECT TO JAMB BROCHURE

This material is produced by JAMB to help students select the subjects related to their different course of study. Some candidates while registering for their Universities Matriculation Examinations (UTME), they selects the subjects they love so much, not minding if is related to their course of study. When this is done, it creates room to failure as it does not match your course of study.

It is advisory that you check and read through the JAMB Brochure before registering for the exam.

  1. LATE REGISTRATION

Late registration has caused more harm than good in the life of most students. When one registers very late, it makes the person to choose state which he/she did not want. The place the person selects may be too far from his/her state of residence. Also, the CBT centre may not be conducive for him/her. The far distance could make the student to arrive the venue very late.

It is quite much better for you to register on time as it guarantees you the opportunity of knowing your centre and visiting your centre before the exam day at low cost.

  1. POOR PLANNING

Planning is preparedness for future. Failure to plan for the future makes the future looks scattered and unproductive. It is indeed one of the major reasons why people fail their JAMB examinations. Some persons just rushed to the exam hall without preparing for it. Most persons think they will continue to see familiar questions, therefore they will not make plan on how to read their books. As it’s been said “one who fails to plan, plans to fail”, once you fail to put your exams as one of your priority or as one of your agenda, it really shows that you have no concern for it, and you takes it as nothing. Also, failing to draw time table regarding to time and when to read for your exams makes some people not to cover up till exam day.

We advise since the subjects are only four, make a standard time table for yourself and strictly follow the time table as it will help you a lot.

  1. INCOMPETENT IN COMPUTER USAGE

Computer knowledge is very important to anyone preparing for JAMB examination. Poor knowledge on the use of computer makes one inefficient and therefore leads to failure. It has caused lots of people to submit even when they have not finished. “Being intelligent is not a guarantee to being computer literate.” You need to learn and as well practice how to answer the questions for more efficiency. Even if you are computer literate, practice more to be more conversant with the criteria needed for efficiency.

  1. DEFICIENT SPEED

Speed is highly needed for an excellent result. Improve in accuracy and speed. Your fastness to the questions helps you to go through the questions even when you are done. Be fast but don’t tick the wrong answers. You can only be efficient when practice very well. Use computers and test your proficiency, efficiency and accuracy before the exam day.

  1. POOR MATERIALS

Materials in this sense regards to books recommended for the examination. Some people get the wrong materials and extracts wrong information which leads to a failure. Though no knowledge is a waste but regarding to the exam is a total waste. Get past questions and see how the questions are been set, buy the recommended textbooks and read. Practice and test yourself with the past questions using the information you got from the textbooks and other vital materials. Always remember that there could be repetition in questions which will favour you positively – no stress in selection, thereby boosting your speed

DEPENDING ON EXAMINATION MALPRACTICE

Examination malpractice is something that has made many students to fail. Some goes inside the hall with cell-phones, calculators, digital watches, written works and even pay somebody to write for them. If they are caught in that immoral act, it leads to final cancelation of your result. The time you use in thinking on what and how to be successful in your malpractice could have been enough for you to read and prepare effectively for your exam. JUST BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND YOU CAN DO IT.

WARNING: This time around, JAMB watches all students from the Head Office, Abuja through CCTV, so if you are caught indulging in any form of examination malpractice from the office, you will not see your result.

  1. LACK OF UNDERSTANDING TO QUESTIONS

This is indeed another important fact. There is no way you will get the right answer if you did not understand the question being asked. Don’t rush to select answers, try to understand it first before your selection. But, that does not means that you will sleep in one question. If you don’t know a particular question or you are not conversant with it, select anyone, later you can go back to it.

  1. LATENESS TO THE VENUE

Arrival to the venue or your exam centre (CBT centre) very late has contributed a lot to students failure. They will not score the mark they suppose to have gotten even if they are prepared very well for the exam because they are disorganized and not relaxed or balanced for the exam (the pressure is high on them).

Also, most invigilators do not allow students who come very late to the exam centre as it’s one of JAMB’s rules towards students. If you fail to adjudge to the rule or instruction you can easily be denied the right of writing the exam.

It is vital that you locate your venue on time, sit and wait for the exam to start and not the reverse (exam waiting for you).
