774000 Public Workers Recruitment by Federal Government over COVID 19 Pandemic – The Federal Government are fighting tooth and nail to make sure the issue at hand, Corona Virus Disease (Covid 19) is contained as soon as they can so that all activities will kick off as it supposes. Today, approval has been given on the recruitment of 774,000 (seven hundred and seventy four thousand) public workers to help control covid 19 in Nigeria.

According to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the engagement of 774, 000 Nigerians on Special Public Works programme in the country to cushion the effect of COVlD-19 pandemic.

Where was this announcement of recruiting 774000 public workers announced?

The Minister disclosed this was made known to the public at a press conference on fiscal stimulus measures in response to COVID-19 pandemic and oil prices fiscal shock in Abuja today Monday 6th April 2020.

How many persons are expected to be recruited from each Local Government Area and State?

She said; “1,000 people were expected to be recruited from each of the 774 local government areas of the country. So, for each states, their number will be multiplied by the number of local Governments in their state.

How much did FG map out to finance this group of people that would be recruited?

According to her, the sum of N60 billion as allowances and operational cost has been earmarked from the COVID-19 crisis intervention fund for the initiative.

How much will be the salary of this 774000 workers and will it be a permanent job?

She added that Buhari had now approved that this programme be extended to all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory from October to December 2020 and the selected time-frame was to ensure that it was implemented after the planting season.

For now, there is no plan to make it a permanent job rather their contract will be over once the virus is contained. For the salary, it has not yet been made known.

The minister disclosed that President Buhari had previously approved a pilot special public works programme in eight states to be implemented by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).
